While 68 per cent of kids don’t eat enough fruit, only five per cent eat the recommended serves of vegies.
Vegies need to be fun and appealing to get children excited about eating them.
So the Healthy Kids Association and NSW Health, organised the Big Vegie Crunch – a record-breaking attempt to have the most Aussie kids eating vegies simultaneously.
St Michael’s Catholic Primary School in Nowra took part in the big crunch on Thursday.
The hall was teeming with excited kids, who were encouraged to bring vegies to school, and try a vegie they don’t usually eat.
Teachers made vegetable displays for their classrooms, and wore costumes.
St Michael’s students, along with students from 460 schools across the state, aiming to break the previous record of 29,067 kids.
St Michael’s kids (pictured above) Abbey Poulton, Jullian Gentile and Madeleine Coleman all love vegies. Their favourite vegetables are carrot, corn and cucumbers.
