The Nowra resident visited the centre during the recent $29 Clear the Decks adoption weekend.
While she wasn’t on the hunt for a specific dog, she knew she would need a small to medium sized pet suitable for her backyard.
When she didn’t spot anything in her first tour, she returned to her car but at the last second Peggy caught her eye.
The three-year-old staffy cross jack russell has now found her forever home with Denise.
“We got back out of the car and just clicked with her straight away,” Denise said.
“We took her for a walk down the driveway and she was so well-behaved and I just knew she was meant to be ours.”

Peggy has now been renamed Peggy Sue and will have some very big paws to fill.
Denise lost her mini foxy, Ginny Girl, in August 2017 after 17 years together.
“We had her right from when she was born so when she died it left a big hole and we felt so lost,” Denise said.
“We weren't intending to get another dog though, we just thought out time with dogs was done but something told me to go to the RSPCA and see what was there.”
Now settled in in her new home, Denise said Peggy Sue is very quiet, well-behaved and already a little spoilt.
“She’s allowed on the lounge but she tried to sleep on the bed which isn’t happening,” Denise laughed.
Denise encouraged everyone looking for a new furry friend to try adopting or rescuing first.
“We’re very happy and very grateful to the RSPCA,” she said.
The RSPCA Shoalhaven Shelter started out with 45 animals on Friday, February 23.
By the end of the adoption weekend, there was just one dog, one cat and a rabbit still to find their forever homes.
Puss is the only cat to find a home. She’s been at the shelter since May 2017. While she was adopted in December, she was returned in January as she proved to be a little too playful for the family’s own cat.
Sharon described Puss as “a sweet but not overly independent girl, not overly affectionate and would suit someone just looking to have a presence in the house.”
