The Princes Highway at Jerrawangala has reopened to traffic after Friday morning’s fatal accident, with police again urging motorists to drive to conditions.
A man and woman were killed in the accident, around 10km south of the Sussex Inlet turnoff, following the two car accident.
Police said around 5.20am on Friday, a sedan travelling south and a four-wheel drive travelling north collided head on.
The drivers, who were the sole occupants in their cars, died at the scene.
It is understood the male driver was a 52-year-old man from Ulladulla, while the female driver was aged 30 from Rosemeadow near Campbelltown.
The highway reopened to traffic in both directions just after 10.30am, with diversions are the area lifted.
Officer in charge of Nowra Police Station Inspector Ray Stynes has pleaded with motorists to drive to conditions, obey the speed limits and be aware of their surroundings while driving.
“Please obey the speed limits and drive to conditions especially in the early hours of the morning,” he said.
“Have some situational awareness around you.”
He said police from Ulladulla were conducting an investigation into the crash and would be making a report for the coroner.
8.20am: Update: Princes Highway crash a double fatality
Two people have died in a two car accident on the Princes Highway, south of Nowra.
About 5.20am on Friday (February 23), two vehicles collided head on the Princes Highway at Jerrawangala, about 10km south of the Sussex Inlet turnoff.
Police media says the drivers of both vehicles, a man and a woman, died at the scene.
They were the sole occupants of their vehicles.
The Princes Highway remains closed in both direction and police have urged motorists to avoid the area or delay their trip.
Diversions are in place – southbound motorists are diverted on to Turpentine Road, Braidwood Road, Nerriga Road and Kings Highway to return to the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay.
Northbound is the same in reverse.
This diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles are being on site.
The highway is expected to be closed for several hours.
Police from the South Coast Police District have started an investigation into the incident and have urged anyone with information to contact police at Nowra on 4421 9699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Friday’s accident follows the horrific Boxing Day collision on the Princes Highway that claimed the life of Home and Away actress Jessica Falkholt and her family and another male driver.

Princes Highway blocked by serious accident south of Sussex Inlet turnoff
7.11am:
The Princes Highway, south of Nowra, is blocked in both directions after a serious accident at Jerrawangala.
Just before 5.30am two cars collided just south of Sussex Inlet Road.
Emergency services are on the scene, with at this stage official reports being two people are trapped with critical injuries.
Diversions are in place – southbound motorists are diverted on to Turpentine Road, Braidwood Road, Nerriga Road and Kings Highway to return to the Princes Highway at Batemans Bay.
Northbound is the same in reverse.
Allow extra travel time, possibly up to an hour to complete the journey.
This diversion is not suitable for heavy vehicles. Heavy vehicles are being on site.
The highway is expected to be closed for a considerable amount of time.
