A suggestion by Councillor John Wells went viral on social media, immensely popular among locals.
This suggestion, to lobby state government to build a flyover, was formulated into a motion, raised at the Strategy and Assets committee meeting last night, and supported unanimously by councillors.
As a result, council will make vigorous representations to the Minister for Roads and Maritime and Freight the Hon Melinda Pavey, the Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra and South Coast Gareth Ward and the Member for South Coast the Hon Shelley Hancock to give high priority to the construction of a grade-separated intersection.
After a bit of debate, Cr Wells agreed to include an addition to the motion – that the RMS investigates other options that would improve the intersection.
