This is the first time both Maddinson, a Nowra product, and Engelbrecht, an Ulladulla United junior, have played for the Comets in the Toyota Futures League – with former NSW first class cricketer Matthews Phelps presenting them with their caps before the match.
Ulladulla product Gilkes, on the other hand, has played for the Comets on six occasions previously.
On Monday, the Comets won the toss and sent their rivals Victoria to the crease – where they were all out for 172 in the 46th over.
Spinner Engelbrecht made the most of his opportunity with the ball, claiming 2/24 from his nine overs.
In reply, the Comets reached 4/151 at stumps on day one, with Maddinson scoring 51 from 68 – an innings which included five boundaries and three sixes.
Both Engelbrecht and Gilkes are yet to come to the crease.
