The momentous occasion was marked with family from as far as Sydney and Canberra, and many local family members, at Wharf Road restaurant.
Barry Stan and Joy Herron met at school when they were 10 years of age, started dating at 16, married at 20, and are looking marvellous at 85.
Joy’s first impression of Stan was, “he was just another boy,” but he played tennis near her house, and they were able to connect in their high school years.
Their first date was at a party, and the proposal wasn’t anything fancy – just a mutual agreement.
“All of our friends were getting married, we thought we should too,” Joy said.
Stan served in the navy for many years, and they moved to the area permanently in 1968.
Joy worked at the paper mill and Riven Haven Motel.
They have four sons, nine grandsons, three granddaughters and two great grandsons, one great granddaughter and have four more babies on the way.
The marriage experts let us in on the secret to a happy, lifelong marriage.
“We tend to say, be there for each other, care for each other and be kind to each other,” Joy said.
They share a love of travelling.
“We’ve been very lucky over the years, we’ve travelled quite widely over a lot of areas,” Joy said.
“We’ve lived in the United Kingdom, Ireland and the United States.”
They were overjoyed to have so many people at the party.
“We’d like to thank our entire family for being here, and sharing it with us today,” Joy said.
