THE 15-year-old started the competition at Boomerang Beach in hot form, winning her round one heat 13 showdown, with a combined wave score of 11.25, edging out Australia’s Bodhi Leigh-Jones and United States’ Brooke Daigneault.
Fulton then backed it up in round two, wining heat seven with a score of 13.05 – which was too high for rivals Elin Tawharu (New Zealand), Ashlee Spence (Australia) and Zoe Clarke (Australia).
In round three, Fulton’s score of 16.55 was just better by United States’ Meah Collins 17.10.
But both of these surfers, who topped the scores of Hawaii’s Savanna Stone and France’s Uhaina Joly, then progressed to the quarter-finals.
But this was as far as Fulton would progress, being eliminated Australia’s Holly Wawn, who would go on to take out the event’s final, 11.90 to 9.25 in the quarter-finals.
