The 3km round trip takes about an hour to complete.
Don’t forget to wear insect repellent, or the mosquitoes will eat you alive.
Local Land Services funded the $45,000 boardwalk, which was built in a year despite the major setback of a fire sweeping through the land, and burning the progress that had been made.
The Callala bush care group, comprised of volunteers, worked hard to complete the project, providing most of the labour for the job.
Shoalhaven Mayor Amanda Findley welcomed about 60 people to the wetland on Friday, and thanked them for their work.
She believes the boardwalk will attract people who wouldn’t generally visit a wetland.
“Now you can bring your friends who may not be a lover of wetlands yet,” Cr Findley said.
“This is how we build strong communities that support the growth of plant and animal species.
“The Shoalhaven is so well-endowed with rich estuaries, coastlines and wetlands.
“Having volunteers committed to keeping weed species out of wetlands is crucial for biodiversity.”
