Gitte Backhausen’s exhibition Nuances of Life will be launched on Saturday, February 3 at 2pm.
The Gerringong artist explores the role happiness plays in our lives.
“In western society happiness is a highly valued emotional state and we are surrounded by positive quotes and motivational sayings,” Gitte said.
“Happiness is not a bad thing, however, problems arise when we come to believe we should always feel this way.
“This exhibition takes a stand against the focus on happiness as a goal and celebrates all aspects of life.”
Through assemblage and mixed media artworks the artist explores the nuances of life – with kindness, humour and a bit of attitude.
Nuances of Life will be opened by visual arts editor Gina Fairley at the Shoalhaven Regional Gallery. It will run until March 3.
Gitte will host a free artist floor talk from 5.30pm to 6.30pm on Tuesday, February 6. Book here.
Mix it Up’, an artist led workshop will be held on Saturday, February 24 from 10am-1pm. Cost is $50 per person. Find more information and tickets bookings here.
