Shoalhaven Councillor Mitchell Pakes wants to include Hyams Beach residents and business owners in a meeting with council staff to improve the gridlock in the area over the Christmas holidays.

In the strategy and assets committee meeting, his notice of motion calls on council to organise an urgent meeting to discuss the issues in the village that have been identified recently.
“Unless you really go down there it’s hard to understand impact peak season has on the community,” Cr Pakes said.
“I was surprised myself how much disregard was shown to residents.
“The residents wanted to praise rangers and staff that made life easier for them.
“As a peace offering to the community the best way to sort this out is to have a discussion.
“They have some really, really good ideas.”
If it goes ahead the meeting will include council’s general manager, councillors, compliance staff, asset management staff, tourism staff, Hyams Beach Villages Association and Hyams Beach business owners.
He would like the meeting to be held within the next couple of months, while the issue is fresh in people’s minds.
“Any solutions could be adopted and rolled out at Myola, Lake Conjola, Culburra and Bendalong."
Cr Pakes will be support Cr Andrew Guile’s notice of motion at the ordinary meeting on Tuesday, January 30.
Cr Guile wants to implement a parking scheme, where tourists pay, and residents are exempt.
Parking meters would be set up in problem areas, like Hyams Beach, Manyana and Bendalong.
Tourists would pay, and residents, provided with a sticker for their cars, would be exempt.
