The store caters for bulk donations of aluminium cans and plastic PET bottles and is the largest collection site between Sydney and the Victorian border.
“Customers can pull up here at the door, they unload into the machine itself and it will process cans and bottles at about 100 a minute,” St Vincent de Paul manager Rod Douglass said.
“You don’t have to put them in one at a time, they all go in at once.”
Once processed, people get a docket from the machine and take it through to the cash room where they get their refund on the spot.
“It’s suitable for people who have more than 100 cans even a couple of thousand, we’ve had people bring in up to 10,000 at a time,” Mr Douglass said.
“We’ve got the capability to process up to 50,000 a day.”
People can drop their cans and bottles off at Vinnies at South Nowra Monday to Saturday from 9am to 2pm.
