NSW Ambulance treated eight people at the scene for non life-threatening injuries. Among them were two eight-year-olds and a 13-year-old. 

“We were called to Burrill Lake at 3.10pm to reports several children were caught in a rip,” a NSW Ambulance spokesman said. 

“Fortunately, by the time we were on scene, all of the patients were brought back to safety by people on the beach. 

“Two rescuers was among the patients.” 

The spokesman said two helicopters were called to the area as a precaution. They are currently at the Milton Helipad in case the patients’ conditions deteriorate. 

All seven patients were taken to Milton Ulladulla Hospital in stable conditions. 

“Two have minor to no injuries and were taken there as a precaution,” the NSW Ambulance spokesman said. 

“Others were taken to hospital with more significant injuries that are non life-threatening.”

Signs in the area warn people of the dangerous currents and strong surge in the Burrill Lake Inlet. 

South and north Mollymook Beach and Narrawallee Beach were closed on Wednesday due to wild seas. 

Earlier this month, Mollymook Surf Life Saving Club captain Adam Woodward said some of the most dangerous areas in the region were lake openings on the run out tide. 

“We often rescue people with the ski at Narrawallee and Burrill Lake Inlets,” he said. 

“With our jet ski, we patrol on the weekend between Dolphin Point and Green Island. We target those areas on the run out tide. If the public can take heed to that, everyone will be a lot better off.”
