While Shoalhaven City Councillors consider the solution to parking and traffic headaches at Hyams Beach, ratepayers have spoken, and they don’t want to foot the bill for a new car park.

More than 80 per cent of voters on a South Coast Register poll said they would not like to see their rates go towards upgrading parking facilities at Hyams Beach.

A far more popular suggestion came from reader Lisa Dwyer Black, whose comment was liked by more than 60 Facebook followers.

“Make people pay to enter,” Lisa said.

“Why should we pay for tourists they come mostly from Sydney and Canberra.

“We don't earn the money these people earn.

“This Christmas period has been a joke on our roads.

“Our area is going backwards fast.”
