Variety South Coast partnered with Havenlee P&C to help light up classrooms with $40,000 worth of educational technology.
The charity provided the school with five new Commboxes.
Valued at around $8000 each, each screen is designed to enable interactive learning. The touchscreens provide a better alternative to projectors and displays.
The screens are already in use at Havenlee School and have proved to be popular with both students and teachers.
Havenlee teacher Carissa Downes said the Commboxes are an integral part of the classroom.
“Students can trace, map, and do all sorts of activities on them,” she said.
“It’s also very very accessible for all our students as you can move it up and down so it’s great for our kids in wheelchairs as well.
“The students are very excited to have this new technology.”
Brian Muller, chairman of Variety South Coast said the organisation was thrilled to support Havenlee School.
“Havenlee had three (Commboxes) previously and they needed another five to put in all the classrooms and we’re very pleased to be able to partner with Havenlee P&C and fund about $40,000 worth of TV between the two groups,” he said.
“As you can see the children just love them and the teachers tell us they interact with them so well.
“It’s great to be able to able to put back into the community with Variety supporting Havenlee.”
The grant was made possible through the generosity of local residents and Shoalhaven Bashers team members. This year the Shoalhaven Bashers team raised over $150,000 for Variety.
Vice president of Havenlee P&C, Liam Molloy, thanked Variety South Coast for the donation.
Mr Muller said local groups in need are always in Variety South Coast’s sights.
“We’re always raising funds and keeping our eyes open for special needs kids that need assistance in the local area,” he said.
“People can approach us directly or Variety Australia.”
