The team was in a great position to get their first victory of the season when lightning stopped play during the Ex-Servicemen’s run chase.
The home side batted first, and got off to one of the slower starts you’ll see in one-day cricket.
Carl Lang and Matt Sethi managed to see the shine off the ball, but when drinks were taken after the 23rd over, the home side were 1/48.
The pace picked up from there however, started by Anthony Mortimer’s quick fire 21, including a six that ended up in the parking lot.
Sethi continued anchoring an end for Scott Fagerlund, who put together three boundaries as part of his 23.
Zac Henstock would join Sethi at the crease after the wicket of his captain, and the two would combine for the most important partnership of the innings.
The two put on 40 runs together before Sethi fell to the bowling of Daniel Gleeson for 43.
Henstock ended his innings with 37, while Sam Lee also chipped in with 23.
While Trevor Thomason (2/42) was the only multiple wicket taker, Nate Jones was the pick of the bowlers with an extremely economical 1/18 from his nine overs.
The Ex-Servicemen’s run chase got off to the worst start possible, with opener Chris Bramley clean bowled by Mick Smart for two in the first over of the game.
Daniel Gleeson and Graham Phillis would settle the ship with a strong partnership of 48, but Smart was about to play havoc on the Ex-Servos batsmen.
He took the wickets of Gleeson (24) and Phillis (25) in quick succession, before claiming the scalp of Nathan Austin (12) not long after.
Smart finished with figures of 4/25 from his nine overs, stamping himself as the most dangerous bowler on display.
Rain stopped play not long after the wicket of Austin, with the Ex-Servicemen at 4/75 after 17 overs.
Batemans Bay captain Scott Fagerlund believes his team would have picked up a victory if not for the weather.
“If we take one more wicket, we would have rolled through them,” he said.
“That was our best performance of the year so far.
“With the T20s coming up, hopefully we can get a couple of wins and go on with it.”
Fagerlund believes that the promising youth in the club will pay dividends in the near future.
“We bowled very well, fielded very well,” he said.
“To come out strong against the top of the table proves that we’ve got a couple of young kids that are going to be very good after the Christmas break.”
