Well here’s your chance.

Quite often people come into the South Coast Register office with marvellous pieces of local history.

This was the case again recently when well-known Shoalhaven local Barry Faulks came to show us a couple of treats he had found.

Mr Faulks dropped off a calendar produced by the South Coast Register in 1928.

The calendar proudly describes the Register as ‘The biggest, brightest and best illustrated bi-weekly on the South Coast.’  

The calendar features 14 stunning photographs of around the region from 1928.

The changes in some of the areas is remarkable.

There is an incredible photo of Werri Beach at Gerringong, minus any housing development.

The calendar features photos from Nowra, Berry, Kangaroo Valley,  Berry Mountain, Jamberoo, Kiama, Albion Park and even Wollongong.

Mr Faulks also had with him two copies of the South Coast Register, one from May 1976 featuring the recent State election results and the implications for South Coast independent John Hatton and a great photo of the late Bernie Regan and his wife Jan at the Bomaderry Cricket Club fancy dress presentation.

The other was from January 1993, which featured a story on the planned rail centenary and also a massive feature on that year’s big Toohey’s Cup cricket clash.

Both papers also featured photos of a number of local faces and a wonderful array of advertisements, which will bring back a lot of memories for long- time residents.

The papers have been photographed and will also be featured in coming weeks.
