After a long and anxious wait, students received their results at 6am on Thursday, December 14.
The school hosted a morning tea today to celebrate their efforts.
Ethan Ford, Luke Goldman, Matthew Davison, Jemima Paterson, Hannah Jones and Charlie Mullins were among the highest achievers. Find their results below.
All students will receive their Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) on Friday, December 15.
Ethan Ford
After receiving a Band 6 in Advanced English, it was all smooth sailing for Ethan Ford.
The NAC student cleaned up across all his subjects, with a Band 6 in Extension 1 Maths, Physics and Earth and Environment Science, a Band 5 in Chemistry and an E3 in Extension 2 Maths.
It was the first result however that brought instant relief.
“I’ve worked so hard for English and when I saw that I thought ‘i’m done’. I’ve gone beyond my limit of what I thought I could do,” Ethan said.
On average, Ethan received four marks higher than he expected for each subject.
While he won’t know his Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) until Friday, December 15, Ethan has already received a conditional offer for a scholarship at the University of New South Wales to study a Bachelor of Photovoltaics and Renewable Energy and Engineering.
A trip to the National Youth Science Forum this year inspired Ethan’s future career path.
“I always knew I was going to do science or physics and when I went to the National Youth Science Forum this year I got pumped about engineering and all the related fields,” he said.
“Renewables is the way society needs to go, I'm going to do everything to help us move in that direction.”
Ethan said his mum shed a few “happy tears” and shared in his joy.
“There was a lot of hard work this year and a bit of pain, so we’re all just so happy with the result,” he said.
Ethan plans to head to university next year.
Luke Goldman
Luke Goldman described his strong HSC results as “a reward for quite a long education journey”.
The NAC school captain received a Band 6 in English, Legal Studies, Ancient History, an E4 in Extension English and Extension History and was one mark off a Band 6 in Economics.
“When I got that text I just felt really satisfied. I did my best and I did what was required and it paid off.”
Luke thanked his teachers and peers for all their support through the year and in the lead-up to the HSC.
He hopes to attend either Sydney University of the University of New South Wales next year, studying commerce and economics.
Matthew Davison
Matthew Davison said he received a “pleasant surprise” when he received his results on Thursday morning.
He received a Band 6 in Advanced English, Music 1, Extension History and Modern History and a Band 5 in Chemistry and Advanced Maths.
“I was pretty surprised to be honest,” Matthew said.
“I was aiming for a Band 6 in Music and a Band 5 in everything else so it was a very pleasant surprise.”
Matthew plans to study a Bachelor of Science at the University of New South Wales in 2019, after first taking a gap year.
Travelling and working, including a stint at Camp America, is in his sights.
Jemima Paterson
After waking at 5.30am on Thursday morning, Jemima Paterson had a tense half an hour to wait before HSC results were released at 6am.
All nerves disappeared however after the all-important text arrived.
Jemima received a Band 6 in Business Studies, Advanced English, PDHPE, Society and Culture and a Band 4 in General Maths.
“I was very happy and definitely a bit surprised,” Jemima said.
Jemima said her very proud parents were quick to phone her grandparents to share the happy news, before calling “everyone they know”.
While she studied consistently and about two hours every weekday, Jemima said she made sure to keep a healthy balance and included an hour of sport everyday.
Jemima plans to study a Bachelor of Media and Communications at the University of Wollongong but might take time out next year to take a well-deserved break somewhere “beachy and tropical”.
Hannah Jones
The 6am text message brought welcome news for Hannah Jones.
Hannah received a Band 6 in Modern History and General Maths and a Band 5 in Japanese Beginners, Advanced English and Earth and Environmental Science.
The NAC student plans to study a Bachelor of Arts at Sydney University next year. She hopes to major in Archaeology and International Relations.
Charlie Mullins
Charlie Mullins has a strong future in the maths and engineering world.
The NAC student received a E4 (Band 6) in Maths Extension 1, an E3 (Band 5) in Extension 2 Maths, a Band 5 in Chemistry, Physics and Design and Technology and a Band 4 in English Advanced.
Charlie said his results were the product of “lots and lots of study”.
“I was definitely pretty happy with the results and they were what I was hoping for,” he said.
Charlie has his sights set on studying a Bachelor of Maths and Engineering at the Australian National University.
“I like the idea of engineering, how things work and the way things operate – I’ve always been interested in that,” Charlie said.
