But thanks to a shock $10,000 donation from local charity, Bomaderry Family Trust, the club that lost its clubhouse to a fire in September will be well equipped for the upcoming soccer season.
“We were pleased to help them get back on their feet,” Bomaderry Family Trust president Gloria Liddicoat said.
“We like to raise money for local recipients.
“We play bingo at the Bomaderry Bowling Club, where they were holding their auction, and I thought, ‘how about we surprise this football club.’
“They were ecstatic. The whole room roared with excitement.”
Gloria said the soccer club was a vital part of the community.
“A lot of our kids grew up playing football there,” she said.
The charity was the most generous of community groups and businesses to chip in and support the soccer club, including $1000 donations from Storage King South Nowra, Sanokil Washroom Services, Ray White and Country Motor Company.
The Bomaderry Football Club have funds to build a new shed, through a federal government grant, and a Shoalhaven Council grant, and await approval from council to get started.
They’re hoping the shed will be built before training starts at the end of January.
At the moment, the club’s equipment is being stored in secretary Stacey Williams’ shed at home, an inconvenience for coaches and teams who want to use the gear.
