The Shoalhaven Anti-Poverty Committee is happy to celebrate the Nowra’s Makers’ Markets’ second year of operation and hopes to build on its success.

Since January 2016 the Makers’ Market has raised over $4500 to support the anti-poverty committee’s work.
The market is operated by local residents who are committed to helping build community pride and respect, and empower local people.
They do this by encouraging other local residents to participate as a stall holder and offer handmade, home grown or homemade products.
In return stallholders donate a portion of their stall fee to the Shoalhaven Anti-Poverty committee.
Market Chairperson Kim Stephenson said the Nowra Makers’ Market was a great example of how dreams can become reality and community participation can make a difference to people’s lives.
“Stallholders such as Pat, thoroughly enjoys the sense of community and the opportunity to share her passion and talent with local patrons at the market,” she said.
“This sense of community is what makes the market a special place to visit.”
During 2017 funds have been used to support Paint Shoalhaven REaD Black and Yellow, the annual Prosperity in the Park family fun day, Nowra East Pride’s community respect projects and the Milton Ulladulla Community Resource Centre’s Adult Reading program.
Facilitator of the Shoalhaven Anti-Poverty Committee, Judith Reardon, wants to thank both the previous and the current market committee’s for their commitment to operating the community group.
“This year the Anti-Poverty Committee has given to Paint Shoalhaven REaD Black and Yellow to make 100’s of Shoalhaven parents more aware of the importance of reading, singing, yarning and rhyming with their pre-schoolers so they are school ready,” Ms Reardon said.
“We have been able to support these projects because we can see that over time they can bring about real change in community attitudes and capacity.”
Jelly Bean Park, on Saturday December 23, will be turned into a winter wonderland with stallholders decorating their stalls and festive music playing to celebrate Christmas.
The markets run from 8am to 2pm on the fourth Saturday of every month.
