The aim was to make Planet Nowra artwork developed over the course of a year accessible to the public.
“I wanted to find a corner of the city,” exhibition director Carlos Gomes said.
“I thought, what a pretty space, it’s nice because people normally see the place and just pass by, it’s nice to transform it.
“It takes some time to immerse yourself in the artwork and installations here.”
It was interactive – during a dance, audience members were asked to step up to the easel and paint the performers.
Some displays used multimedia, for the lullaby there were five mothers on five screens from parts of the Shoalhaven breastfeeding and singing to their children.
Kids from Terara and North Nowra Public School were asked to sculpt an impression of what they would like to be when they grow up, and in the display room, an audio loop of kids talking about their career dreams and fears was played, bringing the sculptures to life.
A Jacaranda tree expected to be flourishing this time of year was decked out in purple, woolen items, hand sewn spider’s webs, mushrooms, owls and ants.
The light display at night is always a highlight, and the projections didn’t fail to impress.
