North Nowra Gumnut Guides were proud to donate four hampers to Bomaderry’s Salt Ministries for its Mobile Response Vehicle recently.

The girls have been busy collecting goods and making gifts this term to give to the homeless for Christmas.

Ash Hudson who is also a helper at North Nowra Gumnut Guides is involved with the homeless and Salt.

Ash is the co-ordinator of the Mobile Response Vehicle, and was able to bring the vehicle for the girls to inspect, and learn more about how the homeless and less fortunate are being helped and how big this problem is in our home town.

North Nowra Gumnut Leader Julie McQuarters (Wombat) said she was proud of the guides.

“The girls had embraced the idea of giving to those less fortunate than themselves and the whole project was actually an eye opener for them to realize not everyone has a roof or family to go home to,” she said.

North Nowra Girl Guides meet every Thursday afternoon during school terms.

They provide a non-formal educational program that is dynamic and flexible while offering values based training in life skills, decision making and leadership.

The group aims to empower girls and young women to grow into confident, self respecting and responsible community members.

They have wide variety of craft, games, activities, cooking and lots more.

If you would like to be involved contact Mrs McQuarters on 0412 162 661 for more information.

The Mobile Response Vehicle is a community-funded van that is coordinated by Salt Ministries and their team of amazing volunteers, to provide support to homeless people in our local area.

The van currently makes regular deliveries to locations where homeless people gather.

They  provide groceries, blankets, swags, toiletries, dog food, hot drinks and a friendly chat.

The vehicle is also available for call-outs when needed and find this is a great opportunity to provide a hand up to those in need in our community and the first step in the fight against homelessness.

They are always looking for donations and volunteers and for more information contact Ash on 0432 829 279.
