About 7.50pm on Saturday, December 3 police were patrolling St Georges Basin and Sanctuary Point as part of Operation Henson when they stopped a Holden Commodore sedan for a random breath test.
The vehicle was being driven by a 20-year-old male driver, with a safety compliance check revealing a number of 'defects' on the vehicle, including a bald tyre and modifications to the exhaust system.
The vehicle was issued a red (major) defect notice, which resulted in the vehicle not being able to be driven until the defects are rectified and it has passed a mechanical inspection.
The driver was issued with $293 in infringement notices for defective vehicle offences.
A short time later a provisional license holder was stopped in the Bay and Basin area.
The vehicle was found to be defective and was subsequently given a red defect notice.
The driver returned a positive indication to driving with an illicit drug in his blood.
He was arrested and taken to Nowra Police Station, where he was subjected to a further drug test.
The driver was also issued with a penalty notice for the defects found on the car.
On Sunday night (December 3) a vehicle was stopped in Illaroo Road, North Nowra, with officers finding a number of defects.
The car was also given with a red defect notice and the driver was issued with $623 in infringement notices for defective vehicle offences.
