Year 10 students Skye Wright, Andrea Charalambous and Sophie Dobell slaved over a stove for two days to prepare for the night.
“We wanted to raise awareness and funds for malnutrition in Tanzania,” Sophie said.
“We chose Tanzania because it’s not one of the most well-known of African countries, we decided we’d like to support them with food.”
The fundraiser will include a trivia quiz about Tanzania, which could be educational for those in attendance.
“Not a lot of people know about malnutrition and stunted growth and how it affects children around the world,” Andrea said.
“When we came across the idea of a hunger banquet we thought it was a great play on words.
“It got bigger and bigger, more people got on board, and now it’s a whole school community event.”
Most of the food served is traditionally Tanzanian.
The girls were overwhelmed by the level of interest in the dinner.
“It’s been amazing the amount of support we’ve received,” Skye said.
“It really shows you how many people you can count on,” Andrea said.
