Shoalhaven City Council has picked up the balance, more than $13 million, and basketball spokesman John Martin said it’s time the state government lends a hand to the project.
“We’ve been chasing funds to help the project, this comes along and helps enormously,” he said.
“This doesn’t mean the state government is free of its obligations to put its hand in its pocket and contribute.”
The grant will provide for good quality equipment in the fit out, including backboards, seats, volleyball nets, mats, scoreboards and fans.
Construction is under way, concrete slabs are going down, and the stadium will be constructed before this time next year, then fit out will take place, due to be finished by Christmas, 2018.
”We’ll be able to host NBL and WNBL pre-season games in a national championship quality venue,” Mr Martin said.
