One of the special guests among the 40 people who turned up for the event was ABC Gardening Australia host Costa Georgiadis.
Costa, who was also joined by Gilmore MP Ann Sudmalis and other community members at the working bee, spoke about how the garden was bringing the community together.
NEPS teacher and Community Garden co-ordinator John Stovin-Bradford said Costa, who has been a regular visitor and supporter of the community project, was impressed with the garden’s development.
“He was particularly impressed with the energy of the people who took part in the working bee,” Mr Stovin-Bradford said.
“Costa sees the development of the garden kitchen, which the school is planning, as an important extension of the garden, to demonstrate how to use produce from the garden in cooking healthy cost saving meals.”
Costa also showed a group the joy he has when weeding nutgrass and pointed out the importance of “patience in the process!”
While at the school he also did a podcast about the garden and the importance of supporting the community kitchen to more than 20,000 of his followers.
Costa is hoping to return again next year.
