The project entails soil being collected from close to 1700 towns of enlistment for the First World War.
The NSW Office for Veterans Affairs and the Nowra RSL Sub-Branch will be holding two events this Friday (November 10) at the Nowra Memorial Gates in Junction Street and Anzac Park Greenwell Point where a soil sample will be taken from both locations.
Both locations play prominent roles in the annual Anzac Day commemorations, often the focal point of dawn and morning services.
The samples will be incorporated into a new exhibition in the Anzac Memorial in Hyde Park, Sydney.
In November 2015 a committee was formed to select an artist for the project. Seven proposals were submitted by senior Australian artists, with Fiona Hall selected.
During World War I, it was not possible for the bodies of fallen soldiers to be returned for burial on home soil.
The walls in the Hall of Service will display the names of the towns, suburbs and settlements across NSW where men and women enlisted from for WWI.
Alongside each place name will be displayed a sample of soil, collected from each listed locale.
The Nowra collection will take place at 11am and at Greenwell Point at 1pm.
