Shoalhaven Community College offers a professional learning environment with individualised attention. School leavers and adult learners looking for an opportunity to gain a qualification or learn new skills can visit the college at its upcoming open day.
On Tuesday, November 14 Shoalhaven Community College’s Hair and Beauty School will showcase its options for those interested in a career in the industry. From 4.30pm until 7.30pm, visitors can explore the modern training facilities, meet the qualified trainers and learn about nationally accredited qualifications in hair and beauty.
“2017 has been an exciting year at the college,” Hair and Beauty School co-ordinator Lillian Spence said. “In addition to the ever popular Diploma in Beauty Therapy, Fast Track Certificate III in Hairdressing has also been in demand with students this year. It allows students to become hairdressers even though they may not have obtained an apprenticeship. ”

Shoalhaven Community College also supports many hair and beauty trainees and apprentices throughout the South Coast. “We pride ourselves on working with salon owners to deliver the outcomes they need for current apprentices and also prospective employees,” Lillian said.
“We are pleased to offer training places subsidised by NSW government’s Smart and Skilled program in 2018. The college is also an approved provider for the VET Student Loans scheme for diploma students.”
VET Student Loans is a loan scheme under the Higher Education Support Act 2003 that helps students with their tuition fees and these fees are repaid like a HECS style loan through the Australian Taxation System once students reach a certain income level. “The combination of Smart and Skilled subsidies and VET Student Loans makes our quality training programs very affordable for students,” executive officer Helen Zwicker said.
There are 30 other qualification courses also starting in 2018 at the community college, with most attracting subsidies from the NSW government. Students can undertake nationally accredited study in the fields of business, accounting, fitness, horticulture, outdoor recreation, training and assessment and more in a friendly, supportive and professional environment.
The college also has articulation arrangements with the University of Wollongong’s Shoalhaven Campus so that students gaining certificate IV or diploma qualifications can gain entry into a number of degree courses at the university. Course information can be found at www.kcc.nsw.edu.au or by phoning 4423 0351.
The Shoalhaven Community College is located on the corner of Mattes Way and the Princes Highway at Bomaderry. Anyone interested in attending the Hair and Beauty Open Day can register by calling 4423 0351 or drop in on the day.
In 2009, Kiama Community College expanded its offerings to the Shoalhaven region with the establishment of Shoalhaven Community College, a campus of Kiama Community College.
