Try some cost-saving
Council's last 13.2 per cent rates increase is bad enough without its latest statement viz "Council is seeking to ensure that this 13.2 per cent increase is retained in the future. Council is also seeking to implement an additional increase increase over coming years.”

If applied next year that would amount to a 28 per cent increase in two years.
This is not going to help the retired community in our area , many of whom of course are pensioners.
Council, try some cost saving measures, for example maybe like no more roundabouts for a while.

The final nail
The High Court in its citizenship rulings is the final nail in the coffin of the Turnbull government.
The scandal-plagued Turnbull government is on its knees and I predict through gritted teeth that the return of labor to power is the only panacea to our political woes.
Yes, there may be much pain and this may include a banking royal commission, a renewed energy policy and don’t forget the old chestnut of industrial relations. Toss in border protection and one could say the die has been cast.
With corporate CEOs allegedly behaving badly and with perceived immunity, aided and abetted by a Coalition government, the political stocks of Labor are building as we speak.
The current government’s inability to project the image of a government in control through displayed examples of poor political judgment is there for all to see.
Labor under Bill Shorten is acting like a party that smells the possibility of electoral victory and the continued gifting of opportunities by their opponents will surely realise a return to the glory years for the federal Labor Party.

Citizenship is simple
We do not need a referendum to change the citizenship requirements for a person to be elected to parliament.
You cannot marry another if you already married to someone else. To do so you have to renounce your former marriage.
Same deal should stand for candidates for parliament. If one’s allegiance is not to Australia and only to Australia, one should not be able to be a candidate for election.
Not so hard for a diligent person to check their ancestry and take the appropriate steps to ensure citizenship sorted.
The claim that 50 per cent of the population was born overseas or has an overseas parent is a distraction to this issue. Do a quick history check. Back in 1901, the percentage of overseas born or overseas parent was not dissimilar to today, only the diversity of ancestry was different.

Height of hypocrisy
Arnold Jago what hypocrisy!
Voting against gay marriage is a loss of freedom?
You conveniently quote the warm and fuzzy bits from the book of infantilism regarding the bible and ignore Leviticus from said book that states that if a man lies with a man and not a woman he is an abomination and shall be condemned to death.
Or elsewhere if a woman does not scream during rape she will receive the same fate.
Such is the love of your god?
So puerile is the bible that after scientists have proven its many falsities even the Vatican has declared it cannot be taken literally.
They didn’t mind lying to their gullible flock for a thousand years though.
I can only say thank god I am an atheist for it was your god that declared all humans including children are evil.
This being so your expressions of love have no validity in the pretext of your religious dissertations.
To be free is to reject the obvious constraints of religion.
