Year three teacher Rachael van Rossum said for the school, it’s a crucial opportunity to involve community members in the students’ education.
“A lot of kids here are actually raised by their grandparents, so many of them play an active role in their schooling,” Mrs van Rossum said.
“Kids love it when their role models show an interest in them.”
Grandparents were welcomed into classrooms just after recess where they took part in games, maths activities, and colouring in.
Then the whole school headed to the top oval for a combined picnic lunch.
Grandparents were treated to performances by infants and primary school choirs.
There were smiles all round from children and grandparents.
Some had not been back to school since their childhoods, like Ron Cardow who remembered all too well his time in detention.
Others return each week to the school to provide assistance in the class room.
