More than 30 volunteers from the community participated, with everyone learning how privileged we are to have quality health care, amid conversation and delightful morning tea.
In a few short hours 1000 Birthing Kits were successfully packaged to be distributed to women in countries including Papua New Guinea, Afghanistan, Myanmar, Madagascar, Sudan, Tibet, Vietnam, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, DR Congo, India, and East Timor.
This brings the total number of Birthing Kits packaged by the Zonta Club of Berry to 15,000 – a huge contribution.
Throughout the year the Zonta Club of Berry holds a variety of fundraiser activities to support various international, national and local causes related to empowerment of women.
From this fundraised the components of the kits are purchased, costing $3 each.
Then it takes a willing workforce to package the six simple items into a sealed plastic bag (a plastic sheet, soap, two gloves, sterile scalpel blade, three cords and five gauze squares).
Zonta’s long-term vision is that every woman in the world will have free access to basic sanitation needs when giving birth.
