However, general manager Russ Pigg warned councillors that telling council staff to drop a matter for 10 years, or for a time beyond their term on council, was in fact not allowed, referring to the Local Government Act.
On Tuesday night a majority of councillors voted to abandon consideration of the sporting tax during their term, and direct $500,000 per year towards the upgrade of local sporting fields.
