At the upcoming council meeting on Tuesday, he’s suggesting council staff prepare a report on the areas of significant cost-shifting from state and federal governments over at least the past 10 years.
At a recent meeting, councillors discussed the waste levy that council tips pay to the NSW government.
“It’s a complete rip off, it’s our money and the state government just takes it,” Cr Proudfoot said.
“It should be returned to the Shoalhaven.”
The $7million rate rise this year could have been prevented if funds from the waste levy were directed to local government.
Cr Proudfoot believes the report will bring to light damning information.
“When this crusade gets under way, I believe governments will be so embarrassed, they will have to act,” he said.
“We won the amalgamation battle, that was a crazy idea for the Shoalhaven, we can win this too.”
