It’s a much-loved event on the Vincentia community calendar but this year’s Vincentia Public School Food Fair will celebrate more than just delicious cuisine.

The school marks its 25th anniversary this year and invites the community to be involved in the Food Fair in more ways than one.
Pavers will be available to buy at the Saturday, November 18 food fiesta from 5pm-8pm, with all funds raised going towards the school’s new sensory playground.
The pavers are $40 each and can be personalised through having your name engraved in it, or being painted by one of your family members.
They will all be displayed in a wall of the new playground.
The school’s new ‘Learning for the Future’ library will also be unveiled at the event. The library features new shelving, an interactive screen, chromebooks and a mobile learning space.
At the time it first opened 25 years ago the school excitedly announced that the library was using a “barwand and barcode labels” and they were “privileged to be part of this new technology.”
The first book on the computer was ‘The pirate who wouldn’t wash’ by Michael Salmon.
Many of the first books were donated by students, parents and community members and the school said they hoped the “commitment and enthusiasm shown towards the library in our early months will continue till the year 2000 and beyond.”
The lives of some of those students who started at Vincentia Public School 25 years ago will also be unveiled at the Food Fair.
A time capsule will be dug up from 5.30pm, revealing a few secrets along the way.
P&C president Jessica South encouraged everyone to come along from 5pm to the big event, enjoy a range of food, and help raise funds for the school.
“We’d love everyone from the community to come along and enjoy some food from all around the world,” she said.
“The food fair is a celebratory event where parents, caregivers, school staff and members of the community join together to produce a fabulous feast representing countries from around the world.
“It is the culinary embodiment of multicultural and acceptance values that Vincentia Public School community represents.”
The fair started 25 years ago but turned into a food fair 14 years ago.
It’s the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Last year it attracted more than 300 people and raised $10,000.
There will be food from all over the world including Greece, Mexico, India, Turkey, Thailand, America, and of course, a classic Aussie barbeque. Fairy floss, icecreams and other delicious goodies are set to satisfy the sweet tooth.
A jumping castle, face painting, cake decorating, hair braiding, photo booth and tombola will make sure all the kids are kept entertained.
Live music and performance will be showcased at two stages around the school and will include dancers from Southern Stars 2017, Studio 19, school choir, karate demonstrations, Vincentia High School, music teachers and students.
If you can’t make it to the festival, the pavers can also be purchased from the school until the end of November.
