Nearly 50,000 Mitsubishi cars across Australia are being recalled, prompted by a defect which may abruptly cut out the engine.

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on Monday published a recall notice on the Mitsubishi Lancer (CJ & CF) 15-16MY, Mitsubishi ASX (XB) 15-15.5MY, and Mitsubishi Outlander (ZJ & ZK) 14MY & 16-17MY.
The recall affects 48,209 vehicles.
A defect in the affected power relays means the part may overheat, possibly leading to engine failure.
"As a result, the engine may stall during driving, fail to restart or failsafe protection may be activated, with a loss of engine power," the notice said.
"An unexpected loss of engine power may result in an accident."
The consumer watchdog published a list of car vehicle identification numbers subject to the recall, which can also be checked on the Mitsubishi website.
Mitsubishi will contact known owners to advise them to bring in their car to a dealer to replace power relays.
Concerned owners or drivers are advised to contact Mitsubishi Motors Australia on 1300 131 211.
The Nissan C11 Tiida (MY2006-2012) and the Nissan D40 Navara (MY2006-2015) were the subject of a separate recall earlier this month, with a total of 83,095 cars affected.
Those vehicles may have faulty Takata airbag inflators, which can rupture when the airbag goes off, shooting out metal fragments and causing serious injury or death.
The ACCC last month urged Australians to check whether their car has been recalled to replace the faulty airbag, and published a long list of cars which may have them fitted.
The faulty airbags are the subject of a worldwide recall, after killing 18 people and injuring more than 180 worldwide.
