A 28-year-old Central Coast woman has fought off an intruder after waking in the middle of the night to discover a man standing in her room armed with a knife.

The incident occurred at 1am on Saturday at a home on Faunce Street in West Gosford.
The 22-year-old man entered the house and approached the bedroom where the woman was sleeping.
The woman woke and lashed out at the intruder with the man stabbing her several times in the fight.
The man fled from the home but remained in the area.
The woman contacted emergency services and was transported to the nearby Gosford Hospital suffering from several serious injuries including a possible punctured lung.
Police, who had been patrolling in the area, saw the man acting suspiciously and spoke to him before a police radio broadcast alerted them to the nearby incident.
They arrested the man and took him to Gosford Police Station where he was charged with special aggravated break enter, commit serious indictable offence and wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Investigators have conducted a forensic examination and seized several items from the Faunce Street home.
The man has been refused bail and is set to appear in Wyong Bail Court on Sunday.
