Family Planning NSW will be holding a two-day course in October designed for workers in the disability service sector.
The course, ‘Sexuality Matters: Part A’ helps people gain essential knowledge, skills and resources for supporting people with disability in the area of sexuality, relationships and reproductive and sexual health.
“We recognise that everybody in every family should have access to high quality information and support to make their own choices about their reproductive and sexual health, which includes people with disability,” Ms Jodie Duggan, Director of Clinical Operations, Family Planning NSW said.
“People with disability have the right to enjoy the same access to reproductive and sexual health services as everyone else.”
“We’ve found that equipping disability support workers with the knowledge of these rights and information on sexuality and relationships is an effective way to do this.
“This course will give disability workers the skills to effectively work with families to promote a positive environment for people with disability to express their sexuality.”
The course would be suited for managers, support workers, case managers and allied health professionals in the disability service sector and participants who successfully complete the course will be able to attend ‘Sexuality Matters: Part B’ which focuses on how to design and deliver a sexuality education program.
The course will be held October 17 and 18 at Interchange Shoalhaven in South Nowra.
People wanting to attend to can get in contact with the education course administrator at education@fpnsw.org.au.
