The state government’s annual beaches scorecard, released on Monday, saw every one of the South Coast’s swimming spots rated as being good or very good.
The ratings were similar to the previous year – despite periods of prolonged wet weather and significant storm events during the 2016-17 reporting period.
Ten beaches in the Shoalhaven were monitored weekly between December and February by Shoalhaven City Council under the NSW Government’s Beachwatch Partnership Program.
All ten beaches monitored had excellent water quality and were suitable for swimming almost all year round.
The beaches monitored included Tilbury Cove and Warrain Beach at Culburra, Collingwood Beach at Vincentia, Shoalhaven Heads Beach, Cudmirrah Beach, Mollymook Beach, Rennies Beach and Racecourse Beach near Ulladulla, and Bawley Point and Merry Beach at Kioloa.
Collingwood Beach and Racecourse Beach were the standout performers, with the two showing the most improved conditions compared to last year.
The Illawarra has some of the best beaches in NSW, but a new report has revealed some are better than others.
