Police allege Hand fired the home-made weapon with intent to wound the 37-year-old man, who suffered multiple stab wounds during the incident. He was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics and then airlifted by helicopter to St George Hospital in Sydney where he underwent surgery.
Hand also faces charges of special aggravated enter a dwelling with intent to wound, wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, using and possessing an unauthorised and prohibited firearm and not keeping a firearm safe.
He did not apply for bail before Magistrate Susan McGowan in Nowra Local Court, which was officially refused.
He will reappear on November 21.

Police arrested Hardes two days after the alleged incident but a court-imposed non-publication order prevented any reporting on his court appearances until August as officers conducted further investigations.
