In attendance will be the best Australia has to offer, with the highest Olympic level of dressage and a number of the country’s Olympians competing – many who are out to make the team for the World Equestrian Games to be hosted in America next year.
One talented young up and coming rider is the Shoalhaven’s Alycia Targa, who will be there competing on a grand prix horse Dresden, owned by Jane Bruce of Neversfelde Stud in Berry.
Targa has brought Dresden through the ranks under the watchful eye of Bruce from a novice horse through to grand prix.
Targa will also have a very promising Berry bred gelding, Neversfelde Kenya in the advanced classes.
The horse is out of the very well performed and bred mare Neversfelde Kudu, who was competed to grand prix with enormous success by Jane Bruce’s husband Maurice.
The 31-year-old rider is on the NSW A Squad and the National Development Squad with both horses and is one of Australia’s most talented and promising up and coming riders.
Targa organises two horses, a life and a child and competes at a high level.
“I guess I treat motherhood like I treat horses,” Targa said.
“Consistency is important, reward often and they are both pretty forgiving as long as they know you love them.
“I had a fairly normal pregnancy and I rode until I was 37 weeks – at this stage little B was in the breech position, getting the feeling of riding from a young age I guess.
“At around 6pm the night before I was due, I was getting ready for our club dressage meeting (of which I am the president) when my waters broke.
“I finished the meeting; evidently it was a bit rushed, before driving myself to the hospital at 9pm to give birth to Miss Bethany.”
Friday’s action at Willinga Park will include the International ‘CDI2* Grand Prix’ with Olympic athletes battling some World Equestrian Games hopefuls. Saturday will showcase Australia’s best up-and-comers with the international Young Rider.
Sunday will be dressage with the ‘Freestyles’ – dressage choreographed to music. Tickets at willingapark.com.au
