Despite the event attracting thousands of people into the city, the bus services will run to a standard Sunday timetable.
In most cases that means the last bus will leave the city by 8.30pm, well before the concert finishes.
The free Gong Shuttle will stop running at 6pm on Sunday night – a half-hour before Elton John takes to the stage.
This means trains will be the only form of public transport available for concertgoers leaving WIN Stadium on Sunday night.
Transport for NSW declined to state whether it spoke with the region’s bus services about changing their timetables to provide a later service on Sunday night.
Had they been directed to run a Saturday timetable for instance, buses would be leaving the city for several hours after the concert.
Also, Transport for NSW did not respond to questions about possible changes to the Gong Shuttle service.

This is despite a Transport for NSW spokesman’s claim that “public transport will be the best option” for Elton John fans travelling to WIN Stadium.
There has, however, been changes to the train timetable with the concert in mind.
A number of trains running into Wollongong station will be eight carriages rather than four, so as to cope with demand.
After the concert, there will be two extra trains running north and south.
The only key change to buses is the creation of the Elton Shuttle, which Dion’s Bus Service is running between Wollongong station and WIN Stadium.
The free shuttle, which will stop at the Keira and Kenny street entrances to the GPT Gateway parking station, will run from 3-7pm and again from 8:30-10.30pm.
Due to road closures, the shuttle will drop off passengers outside the Wollongong Council building in Burelli Street.
Harbour Street northbound between Stewart and Burelli streets and also southbound between Burelli and Crown streets will be closed between 3-10pm.
All other Dion's services from 3pm on Sunday will also begin and end at the council building.
Premier Illawarra buses will also be operating to the normal Sunday timetable.
Meanwhile, Uber will be sending out notifications to drivers to alert them to the expected increased demand on Sunday.
“There are now more than 150 local Uber driver-partners in Wollongong and we’ll be letting them know demand is expected to be high on Sunday afternoon as fans head out to enjoy Elton John’s concert,” a spokesman said.
