The Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital Auxiliary is out to raise money for a telementry baby heart rate monitor for the maternity ward at the Shoalhaven Memorial Hospital.
The $40,000 piece of equipment allows women to be more mobile in labor. The machine allows women to be monitored without being hooked up to a machine.
“We only have one at the hospital at the moment and it makes a really big difference for women in labor,” midwife Catherine Darnell said.
“Women can shower or bathe while still being monitored and it definitely helps them labor better.”
Telemetry is a form of electronic fetal monitoring without wires. This type of fetal check uses a transmitter on your thigh to transmit the baby's heart tones, via radio waves, to the nurse's station.
It uses the same sound wave technology as an external electronic fetal monitor to track the baby’s heartbeat.
The Spring into Maternity Ball will be a formal event, held on Friday, October 6.
It will kick off at 6.30pm at the Bomaderry Bowling Club.
Tickets are $80 each and must be purchased in advance from the Auxiliary at Shoalhaven District Memorial Hospital.
The ticket price includes a three course meal and live entertainment featuring Brad Myers and DJ Nana Blade.
Tables of 10 are available and must be paid for in full at the time of booking.
Brad Myers is from Sydney and has regular gigs at various venues across the city.
Music has been a part of Brad's life since his formative years, and you can hear it in his powerful, husky voice, soaring vocal range and the rhythms of his accomplished guitar playing, covering rock, pop, blues, rnb, ballads, soul and reggae.
The night will finish with plenty of dancing, thanks to the sweet sounds of DJ Nana Blade.
The auxiliary will also be hosting an auction and raffles on the night, featuring plenty of donated goods and services.
If you can’t make it to the night, but would still like donate a raffle prize or auction item, the Auxiliary would love to hear from you.
