In the first semi of the day St Georges Basin faced Allsorts for the right to go through to the women’s grand final next weekend. A tough game for both teams, and neither team seemed to want the ball and were very quiet across the park.

A 1-0 lead to Allsorts at halftime seemed to be enough as both sides were strong in defence. A well executed penalty corner from Basin evened up the scores and at fulltime we were locked at 1-1. Two 10-minute periods of sudden death ensued; neither team could break the deadlock, with both keepers called into action to stay in the game.
For the second week Basin took the game to shootouts, and unfortunately for them it was the Allsorts keeper that kept her cool. Allsorts took out the semi, and will play a rested Berry Black on Saturday at 1pm.
Allsorts have had a quiet build up to the GF and will be looking to find their spark this week at training. They have talent across the park and probably the best keeper in the women’s comp.
Berry Black, whilst being undefeated all season, will know that means nothing on grand final day. Berry will be looking to move the ball quickly from defence, and put pressure on the Allsorts backline. This should be a tight game and its all on the line this weekend.
The men’s game proved to be the game all fans were hoping for. Burrawang Yowies fought hard all year to finish with the double chance, and Heads with the best midfield in the comp having to do it the long way.
The game was played at a frenetic pace, and with Heads missing Michael Dun up front, there were some questions as to where their strike power would come from.
Both teams started nervously, and Yowies had the first real opportunity of the game, shooting high over an empty net. Heads made Yowies pay, and a mistake on the goal line saw Heads take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Yowies were quick to bounce back in the second half and get the score back to 1-1. Heads didn't stop and managed to get the elusive goal for a 2-1 win.
In a great turnaround for the Heads club, it looks as though the last few years of building is paying off. They now play minor premiers Berry Black at 3:30 Saturday arvo. This is going to be an interesting game, as the youth of Heads look to show and go around the older but wiser Berry defence. The men’s final will be hard to pick, and both teams have clear advantages across the ground.
