After losing their opening game two games 6-nil and 8-nil to the United States and Ukraine respectively, the Pararoos have now strung two wins on the trot – firstly defeating Northern Ireland 2-1 before their win against Japan.
In their most recent match, at the Stadium Juan Gilberto Funes the Pararoos took the lead inside eight minutes with Atkins scored from a corner.
10 minutes later, Jones was in on the scoring, finishing off some clever build up play from Ben Roche.
The Pararoos then extended their lead to three, in the 23rd minute of the second half - with captain David Barber scoring from a penalty.
In the final five minutes, Japan made the scoreline more respectable, with two late goals, but the Pararoos held on for a well-deserved win.
“I was happy with the first 50 minutes of the games,” Pararoos coach Kai Lammert said.
“The boys dominated possession throughout the game.
“We created numerous chances to put the result beyond doubt, but failed to take them earlier in the game.
“They were some nervous moments at the end, but a massive compliment to the boys who continue to improve from game to game.
“We are looking forward to our next game and the opportunity that we can test ourselves against a team currently sitting in the top 10 in the world.”
The Pararoos will now play off for places 9th-12th of the IFCPF and will face the winner of the Canada/Portugal match on Wednesday morning (AEST).
