With many cats not microchipped, finding their owner often proves impossible but RSPCA NSW shelters are out to end that this month. Microchipping is being offered at Shoalhaven RSPCA for $10 during ‘cat month’.
Animal attendant at Shoalhaven RSPCA, Rachel Barling encouraged everyone to bring in their cats and take advantage of the deal.
“Cat month is about community awareness,” she said.
“There’s so many cats that come into the Shoalhaven shelters that aren’t rehomed, for the simple reason that they’re not microchipped.”
Rachel said on average, the Shoalhaven shelter has 40 to 50 cats come in a month. When they’re microchipped, it makes the reunion with their owner a lot easier.
“When they do get the call from the shelter, they’re really relieved because they don’t know whether they’ve been locked in the neighbour's garage or hit by a car,” she said.
“Ideally we should keep our cats inside but if you are someone who keeps them inside and outside, microchipping is the way to go.”
The Shoalhaven RSPCA is located at 114 Flatrock Road, Mundamia and is open 9am-4pm Monday to Wednesday, Friday to Sunday. It’s closed on Thursdays. No appointments necessary. Bring your cat in a cat cage and it can be microchipped on the spot.
