Fulton Hogan is the only company to feature on the expressions of interest shortlist for both projects.
The others on the shortlist for the Berry to Bomaderry upgrade are York Civil and two consortiums, Downer and Seymour Whyte, and Georgiou and Nace.
The other two groups on the list to construct the Albion Park Rail Bypass are CPB Contractors and a joint venture between BMD and John Holland.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Illawarra Gareth Ward said the companies’ capacity to deliver the project would now be scrutinised with one chosen from each list to put forward a tender.
Fulton Hogan built the Gerringong stage of the Princes Highway upgrade and is now putting the finishing touches on the Berry bypass.
Despite being familiar with this section of the highway and already having workers in the area, this didn’t guarantee Fulton Hogan would be the successful tenderer, Mr Ward said.
“We have to independently assess all the contracts that come forward to make sure that we get value for money,” Mr Ward said.
“That of course improves capacity to deliver projects. I’ll leave that up to the people who do that independently, to make sure we get the best contractor and the best value product.”
The tenders for both projects will have to conform to the state government’s new steel procurement rules.
The rules mean all steel in the projects must conform to the new Australian Steel Standard.
