About 1.30am (September 13), emergency services were called to Quay Road, Callala Beach, where a detached garage was found well alight.
Fire and Rescue NSW and Rural Fire Service crews attended and extinguished the blaze; however the building was destroyed.
When crews arrived the garage was well alight and had already begun to collapse.
Fire crews set up in a defensive position and protected the surrounding houses, containing the blaze to the garage.
There was no fire damage to the house itself or the surrounding properties.
The property was vacant at the time.
Officers attached to the Shoalhaven Local Area Command established a crime scene and are investigating.
Police are treating the fire as suspicious and have urged anyone with information to come forward and contact Nowra Police on 4421 9699 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
