In what is certainly a first in speedway classes throughout the country, Legend Cars Australia provides a unique opportunity to their drivers each season to represent their country at the prestigious event in America’s mid-west - by means of a qualification process, which includes winning the Australian Title or collecting multiple state titles in a single season.
Commencing the initiative four seasons ago, Legend Cars Australia wanted to give drivers an added incentive to continue racing and attempting to be competitive throughout Australia, while then being able to improve as a competitor by facing a different style of competition in what is considered the hotbed for Legend Cars, which is a huge testament to growth and development of the class that is privately owned by John Dennehy.
Joining the likes of Hayden Pascoe, Dan Morris and Liam Heaton, who have flown the flag for Australia over the past six months, the drivers couldn’t be happier to be receiving the chance to race internationally.
With youngster Arnold having clinched an impressive victory in the Australian Title at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway in May, and Mitchell having taken out both the ACT and Victorian Titles, both drivers automatically qualified to participate in the INEX Legend Car Nationals and will therefore be supplied with cars on behalf of Legend Cars Australia, while Keane has leased a car from American car owner Tim Brockhouse in order to compete.
With his only racing experience prior to Legend Cars being go karting on the tar circuits, the determined 21-year-old Arnold has certainly made a name for himself since stepping into the class, claiming the Australian Title crown in just his third full season, despite contesting limited shows.
Competing in the Pro class in the upcoming INEX Legend Car Nationals, Arnold will definitely not just be making up the numbers.
“I’m extremely excited to have received the opportunity to race in America and represent my country,” Arnold, who also placed third in last season’s NSW Title, said.
“I’ve got a bit of added confidence off the back of winning the Australia Title, but I know it won’t be easy.
“I’m going to fly the Aussie flag high and do the best that I can.
“I also have to say a big thanks to Tim Brockhouse from North Dakota, who will be travelling 26 hours to North Carolina to pick up our cars and bring them to Red River Valley Speedway – we’re extremely grateful.”
The 2017 INEX Legend Car Nationals will commence on Thursday, September 28 with a scheduled test day, followed by qualifying and heat races on Friday night.
Saturday night will see drivers from each class contest their B mains, followed by their 30-lap A mains.
