Paul Sutton revealed the wait time was three weeks in 2008.
“I am aghast at what I hear in regards to DAs taking so long, which in turn reduces employment,” he said.
“Come on council’s development section, and councillors, please let’s get back to three week approvals.”
Tanya Emes, in the process of building her family home, said it took them 12 months to comply with the regulations, and what applied to her next door neighbour’s property did not seem to apply to hers.
“Apparently the same rules do not apply and we are yet to knock down a tree as we are still not approved," she said.
“At this rate our first born will be sawing down the first cut tree.”
Fiona Butler said residents have had to pull up their socks, and that council should do the same.
“Even though you need to submit everything scanned and handed in as a digital copy there’s still a 12 week wait on it being looked at,” Fiona Butler said.
On Thursday, a journalist contacted Shoalhaven Council regarding the backlog, however council has not supplied a response.
