Cancer Council NSW Accommodation and Support Services Coordinator Jarrod Flynn said by supporting Daffodil Day local people contribute to life-saving cancer research, prevention programs, support services and advocacy programs.
“Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer, with one in two Australians predicted to be diagnosed by age 85,” he said.
“We encourage everyone to make a difference by supporting Cancer Council today. Get out there, wear a pin, and give some fresh daffodils to someone you know.”
Local Daffodil Day sites are Berry Broughton Court, Nowra Bunnings, Nowra Hospital, Nowra Coles, Nowra Stockland and Vincentia Marketplace or go to www.daffodilday.com.au or call 1300 65 65 85.
This year marks 31 years of Daffodil Day in Australia.
As one of the largest national fundraising events, this year Cancer Council hopes to raise $2.1m in NSW.
Who will you buy a Daffodil for?
Cathy Lucas, the chairperson of the Shoalhaven Relay for Life and long time Cancer Council volunteer knows who she will buy a daffodil for?
She will buy a daffodil to remember her mum and dad Eileen and Cliff Stedfut.
Mrs Lucas said Daffodil Day was an important event.
"Yes, I think Daffodil Day is important for two reasons,” she said.
“One, the money raised for Cancer Council goes to help those who have been diagnosed with cancer and to provide much needed support but also any time when we have a chance to remember those who we have lost to this disease or who have been through treatment is a good thing.
“The more we talk about cancer the more people realise they are not alone in this journey. We need to show support to one another – that’s an important part of any community."
