Members gathered for a special celebration at the Mountain Ridge Winery.
The group meets each Wednesday from 8.30am to 11.30am at the Shoalhaven Heads Community Centre.
From humble beginnings in one member’s kitchen, the group progressed to a garage and finally 35 years ago to the community centre.
All items made by members are donated to charity.
Each year the group also donates $900 to local groups, such as the Rural Fire Service, Men’s Shed, Kids SHACK and the Surf Lifesaving Club.
Members also produce care packages for Australian defence force members serving overseas, trauma teddies and baby memory boxes.
Over the years members have made thousands of blankets which have been donated to oncology section, children’s ward and maternity section of Shoalhaven District Hospital, numerous local nursing homes, the Homeless Hub and for local police to be given to children in need of care.
And in 2018 members will be part of an effort with other groups from around the country, knitting or crocheting 60,000 red poppies for the Australian War Memorial to mark the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
